About
Jess Kovach
Owner & Instructor
I am a classically trained pianist & vocalist with over 10 years of teaching piano. I am passionate about sharing my love for music with students of all ages. Based in the beautiful Squamish, BC, I believe in creating a fun and engaging learning environment where students can explore and discover their own style and passion for music. When I'm not at the piano, you'll find me enjoying the outdoors with my beloved dogs, Gunnar & Thor.

My Teaching Philosophy
Music has always been a powerful part of my life—a source of healing, emotional expression, and creative escape. I believe music education is not only about learning to play an instrument, but also about supporting mental wellness, building emotional intelligence, and fostering personal growth at every age and developmental stage.

My piano teaching is informed by a holistic approach that blends traditional methods such as the Faber method with creative, game-based learning. I strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel safe to express themselves, explore their creativity, and develop confidence. Lessons are personalized to each student’s goals, interests, and learning style, offering structure and discipline balanced with fun and freedom.

I place strong emphasis on foundational skills such as music theory, sight-reading, and technical development, using proven materials such as Piano Adventures for lessons and theory, Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) for technical requirements, etudes, and repertoire. Lessons also incorporate a wide variety of genres—from classical to pop, jazz, and blues—based on each student’s preferences and goals.
I also believe in offering students meaningful opportunities to apply and celebrate their progress. This includes optional participation in RCM exams and competitions, as well as local performance opportunities such as our year-end studio recital, school concerts, performances at retirement homes, and community events like the Squamish Music Festival. I encourage students to take part in other musical activities, such as exploring additional instruments or music programs, to further enrich their musical experience.

Through regular communication with parents and a flexible but comprehensive lesson plan, I aim to guide students toward becoming confident, capable musicians with functional piano skills—whether they wish to pursue music seriously or simply play for their own pleasure in the future.

All ages and levels are welcome, from kindergarten through adulthood. My ultimate goal is to help each student discover the joy and lifelong value of making music.
